In the scope of the interdisciplinary GIDAS Project, the VUFO documents, reconstructs and analyses approximately 1,000 road traffic accidents per year involving personal injury in the Dresden metropolitan area. The data collected by order of the German Research Association for Automative Technology (FAT), a registered association provides vehicle manufacturers and sub-contractors with a data base to (further) develop passive, integral and active safety systems and functions of automated driving. Furthermore, the data and analyses collected by the VUFO are also integrated into legislation, the development of regulations and consumer protection tests. By collecting road traffic accident data, the VUFO have become a provider of research and development which counsels and supports companies, authorities, ministries, associations, bodies and research institutions on a national and international level.
