Describe your organisation

In order to reduce the number of accidents, the Board of Trustees for Road Safety was founded as an independent association on 24 April 1959. The first Austria-wide campaign took place on 22 May 1959 with the ‘Road Safety Day’. The KFV carries out pioneering work in traffic and vehicle technology, traffic psychology and road safety education. Accidents are analysed and researched from different angles and the KFV positions itself as an expert in accident prevention.

In the 1980s, the Austrian Road Safety Board launched the ‘Minus ten per cent’ campaign, the largest Austria-wide road safety campaign to date. HELMI, the little safety expert, supports the KFV with tips for children and young people on correct behaviour in road traffic. In 1986, the Austrian Road Safety Board approaches the federal government with the first ‘10-point road safety programme’ to reduce the number of accidents in Austria. The Board of Trustees for Road Safety advocates the issue of road safety beyond the country's borders and also gains weight at EU level with its expertise. In 1992, KFV Sicherheit-Service GmbH was founded to offer services in the transport sector and other areas of life in order to promote the safety and health of people in Austria.

More than 60 years after it was founded, the KFV is a modern prevention organisation that has retained its innovative strength over the decades. The KFV sees its task as strengthening the risk competence of the population, because despite the technical possibilities available to modern man, foresighted action is still the best accident protection.
