The Organization:Women and Child Welfare Society (WCWS), with its headquarters located in the city of Cuttack, is a not-for-profit organization working towards the overall development of deprived communities--the poor and marginalised sections of the society in the State. Working for the last two decades to ameliorate the condition of poor and deprived classes, the initiatives undertaken by the Society are specially directed to bring wellbeing for women, children, youths and general public in the broader perspective with active community participation. 

Though registered on September 23,  1995 under the Societies Act, 1860,  the organisation had come into being in January, 1994 with relentless efforts and active involvement of some young volunteers coming together for the socio-economic uplift of the vulnerable and weaker sections of the society, especially women, children   youths and general public with the aim of improving their quality of life in a holistic manner which over the years, have encompassed activities permeating the fields of health, education, science and technology, sanitation, environmental protection, road safety, energy conservation, women empowerment, child rights, climate change, youth empowerment, self employment, awareness generation and conservation of resources consistent with the norms of sustainable development. The organisation acts as a unique resource agency which bridges the gap between public welfare schemes and the disadvantaged sections of the society.

Creating awareness among the masses on issues concerning their development, empowering the weaker sections and providing much needed fillip to them in matters directly linked to their development have been the prime efforts made by our volunteers and staff.

Mission:To empower the poor, develop their potential; improve the socio-economic status of the community, reduce poverty and bring sustainable development with special emphasis on weaker and vulnerable groups of the society such as women, children, the downtrodden (SC and ST) and deprived poor. 

Vision: To show path to all the deprived people of the society that is just and practical being free from all types of discrimination guarantying equal rights and opportunities to all irrespective of caste, creed, sex and religion.

Aim:To  improve the quality of life of deprived classes with emphasis on women, children and youth.

    Objectives:                                         

  • To identify the problems of the weaker sections of the community,
  • To prioritise the needs of these classes,
  • To resolve them with available resources,
  • To pursue an organised, systematic and holistic approach in resolving such issues.

    Organization Structure:The Executive Body is the supreme governing and administrative body of the organization and General Secretary is the Chief Functionary who is full responsible for managing the overall function and administration of the project. It has also an Advisory Committee comprising of qualified experts on the field of Health & Family Welfare, legal, social work, scientist, environmentalist, road safety expert etc. which is ready to give advice & guide the Executive Body & the General Secretary on policy making & provide technical inputs for planning intervention of all programmes. The General Secretary is the Chief Functionary of the Organization. The Organization is backed by a band of dedicated and highly motivated professionals who help implement various programmes of WCWS with true grit and gumption.

    WE AND OUR EFFORT

    On the Road of thorn and critical turnings social service has been rendered to the deprived sector     which can be visualized at field level where the activists and beneficiaries decide to triumph over the menace. Nothing is insurmountable as and when dedication and commitment is embraced. A span of one decade of social service, handful of splendid & spectacular achievements, appreciation, etc is not a small thing to say. Our effort is the best recognition that has been proved in course of discharging services to the mankind. Constrains are many but commitment is made once for all. We proceed to fetch happiness for them and their contentment is our goal. Women & Child Welfare Society has been working in different sectors prioritizing Road Safety Awareness, Health & Sanitation, Education,Child Rights, Child Labour Eradication, Safe Motherhood, Environment protection, Petroleum Conservation, Science and Technology, Human Rights and Legal Awareness, Women Empowerment in the state of Orissa. The organization has been awarded for adventurous and impressive social services in the state of Orissa from the Chief Minister of the state. The General Secretary, Mrs. Minati Bindhani of the organization has received the 14th Godfrey Philips Bravery Award, District Level Road Safety Award, Sevaratna Samman, Akhayatrutia Samman, Prakrutibandhu Award, Best Social Worker, Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhabana Award, Nyayajyoti Award etc. for her splendid social acts of courage and she has been honored for her sincere work for the interest of women and Child. Women & Child Welfare Society has been bejeweled with Best Organization award for Environment Awareness, Road Safety Appreciation Award, Bikash Jatra Appreciation, etc. In the field of Health, Education, Environment, Science & Technology, Road Safety etc. the organization has been conducting workshops and seminars, health camps, HIV/AIDS awareness, Malaria awareness, Bed net impregnation programme etc. in association with Health Department. Health and sanitation programmes are being conducted in different district of Orissa. The organization has been sincerely conducting Road Safety Awareness programme in the state having observed the National Road Safety week, conducting seminars, health check up and eye testing for Drivers in the state of Orissa are the best schedules of the organization. In the deprived sector the activities of the organization has appreciated by the National Child Labor Project, Cuttack (Govt. of India, Ministry of Labor Initiative). The Organization is running a special learning center in Cuttack City and providing education, nutrition, health care and vocational training to the child labor students. The Secretary of Women & Child Welfare Society has been acting as Asst.Coordinator, White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Mother Hood, Cuttack Chapter and conducting awareness rally, public hearing and public meeting; school level competition with Petroleum Conservation Research Association, Eastern Region, Kolkata, the organization has organized different activities on Oil and Gas conservation in the Cuttack & other district. The organization is conducting programs on slum adolescents by rendering gender education, unwanted pregnancy, and formation of peer groups for their safety.The organization is being funded by Govt. of India as well as Govt. of Odisha since inception for implementation of different projects for empowerment of people in the state of Odisha.
