Road Safety: e-scooter national rules

E-scooters have very rapidly become a popular mode of transport and are expected to remain attractive for years to come. However, the use of e-scooters can be dangerous, primarily for the e-scooter user, but also for other road users. In Austria, the number of injuries in e-scooter accidents has multiplied. In 2024, there were 7,500 e-scooter riders treated in hospital.

Promoting awareness of safety regulations is therefore crucial for accident prevention. That's exactly what this video, which is available in English, Bulgarian, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Maltese, Romanian, Slovenian and Swedish, does. As the rules for e-scooters vary across Europe, the video is accompanied by informative factsheets detailing the national traffic rules for each country (Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland). The KFV acts as initiator, supporter and roadsafety expert in this international project.

Together, these resources aim to equip e-scooter riders with basic information and promote safer and more responsible driving practices across Europe.
