The European Road Safety Charter aims to engage a wide range of members and stakeholders — including companies, associations, local authorities, research institutions, universities, schools and individuals — at local, regional, national, and international levels across the EU.
Recognising the diverse priorities and challenges faced by its members, the Charter has developed a tailored approach to communication and dissemination through the introduction of European Road Safety Charter Ambassadors.
Who are the European Road Safety Charter Ambassadors?
European Road Safety Charter Ambassadors serve as the Charter's representatives within each Member State, ensuring that the Charter's message is effectively communicated and relevant to local contexts. These Charter Ambassadors make the Charter more accessible, allowing potential members to connect with a familiar national stakeholder who understands their specific needs and speaks their language.
The organisations that act as European Road Safety Charter Ambassadors are carefully selected by the Charter team. They must demonstrate expertise in road safety, excellent stakeholder network knowledge, and a good understanding of national needs. Many of the European Road Safety Charter Ambassadors are research institutes and non-profit organisations.

Charter Ambassadors support the Charter by:
- Promoting the Charter and its membership, sharing details about the Charter goals and activities and encouraging organisations within their country to become a member and make commitments to road safety
- Offering country-specific insights on road safety activities
- Identifying good practices in Member States and helping to pinpoint effective road safety practices
- Answering day-to-day member questions about the Charter
- Spreading information and organising educational events on a national level
Charter Ambassadors support Charter Members by:

- Supporting them to present their good practices to an international audience
- Assisting in developing award submissions for the Excellence in Road Safety Awards
- Answering day-to-day questions about the Charter
- Sharing international road safety knowledge, webinars and events
