Who is the Technical University of Denmark, and what is your role as a Charter Ambassador?
The Technical University of Denmark acts as Denmark’s Ambassador for the European Road Safety Charter. We are a team of researchers specialising in road safety, crash analysis, and road user behaviour. As part of our work, we provide research-based recommendations and policy evaluations to the Danish Ministry of Transport and other national stakeholders.
As National Relay, our role is to raise awareness of the Charter in Denmark, support knowledge of road safety activities across Europe, and share Danish experiences and good practices with the wider European road safety community.
Why did you decide to join the European Road Safety Charter?
We joined the Charter because road safety is a critical issue, and international collaboration allows us to inspire one another, learn from different experiences, and ensure that road safety remains a priority both nationally and internationally.
What are your main focus areas and current projects?
Our work focuses on key road safety challenges, including crash prevention, young drivers, driver training, drink-driving, speeding, and distraction. We are particularly involved in the evaluation of Denmark’s accompanied driving scheme, providing research-based insights to improve training and safety outcomes for new drivers.
Who do you collaborate with?
We collaborate with national stakeholders, including the Danish Ministry of Transport, providing research-based advice and evaluating policy initiatives. Internationally, we participate in research projects and networks such as FERSI, HUMANIST, and IRTAD, enabling the exchange of knowledge and best practices across Europe.
What advice would you give to organisations working on road safety?
Ensure that initiatives are research-based and evaluated.
