Who is Fesvial, and what is your role as a Charter Ambassador?

As the Charter Ambassador for Spain, we are responsible for promoting and developing the European Road Safety Charter across the country. We raise awareness of the Charter and its benefits to attract Spanish companies and institutions to sign up, participate in awards, or share best practices.

We carry out this work through social media, conferences, congresses, and direct engagement with companies via meetings or calls, ensuring that organisations are informed about the Charter and its opportunities.

Why did you decide to join the European Road Safety Charter?

Our main objective is to contribute to improving road safety in society. We joined the Charter because its social values align with this mission to improve road safety and mobility, and to prevent fatalities and injuries from traffic accidents.

The Charter provides guidance, facilitates the sharing of best practices, and strengthens our ability to promote safer behaviours among drivers and other road users.

What are your main focus areas and current projects?

Traffic accidents remain a major challenge in Spain, and one key focus is ensuring that advances in road safety, particularly technological developments, are known and used by drivers.

Through the VIDAS project, we communicate the characteristics and functions of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in vehicles, promoting these technologies as safety systems that help prevent accidents and improve mobility. This work emphasises accessibility and usability of safety technologies to all road users.

Who do you collaborate with?

To improve road safety, we liaise with public administrations, institutions, and companies, sharing research, training, and educational initiatives. The Fesvial board of trustees includes 28 members from public administrations, private companies, and labour and business organisations, all actively involved in promoting road safety.

What advice would you give to organisations working on road safety?

Successful road safety actions start with understanding the issue through research. Sociological and epidemiological studies help explain risk perception, behaviour, and accident patterns. The same applies to awareness campaigns, which must be based on a clear understanding of the target audience.
