Who is the Guild of Driving Teachers, and what is your role as a Charter Ambassador?

As a Charter Ambassador in Lithuania, we act as a link between the European Road Safety Charter, its members, and national stakeholders. Our role is to support, promote, and connect organisations and individuals committed to improving road safety.

We raise awareness of the Charter’s mission, encourage the sharing of good practices and innovative initiatives, and foster collaboration among members. By building a strong community of committed partners, we aim to make road safety a shared responsibility across society.

Why did you decide to join the European Road Safety Charter?

Our motivation comes from long-standing experience in driver education and local road safety work. For over ten years, we have worked in driving instruction, helping new drivers develop not only technical skills but also safe and responsible attitudes. This experience has shown how important early education is in shaping long-term behaviour.

In addition, our involvement in a municipal road safety commission provides a local policy perspective, creating a strong foundation for supporting the Charter’s mission.

What are your main focus areas and current projects?

We focus on education as the key to road safety, both in preparing safe and responsible drivers before they obtain a licence and in supporting continued learning afterwards. Our work is guided by the belief that every road user matters, including drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and passengers.

We are particularly proud of cycling-related initiatives in Lithuania that promote safe overtaking and equal rights on the road.

What advice would you give to organisations working on road safety?

Start with education and lead by example. Road safety is not only about rules, but also about responsibility and respect. Whether you are a teacher, policymaker, parent, or road user, your actions influence others. Even small initiatives, such as raising awareness in your community, sharing good practices, or modelling safe behaviour, can make a difference. Road safety is a shared responsibility.
