Who is the KTI Institute for Transport Sciences, and what is your role as a Charter Ambassador?

The KTI Institute for Transport Sciences works across all branches of transport, supporting transport administration and sector stakeholders with data, studies, and preparatory materials.

As Charter Ambassador, KTI connects the European Road Safety Charter with its Hungarian members, supports road safety initiatives, and encourages the sharing of good practices and project ideas.

Why did you decide to join the European Road Safety Charter?

KTI is committed to improving road safety and is constantly seeking effective approaches to support this goal. The Charter provides access to internationally proven practices and offers valuable opportunities to build partnerships with organisations across Europe. Our role as a central transport research institute, combined with a strong professional network, helps us apply and disseminate this knowledge at national level.

What are your main focus areas and current projects?

We focus on road users as the key player in road safety. Alongside technological, regulatory, and infrastructure measures, we place strong emphasis on shaping safe road user behaviour through education across all stages of life.

A key initiative is the “ÉletÚton” (“On Life’s Road”) programme, which applies a lifelong learning approach to road safety, reaching different age groups through age-appropriate education, from early childhood to driver training and testing.

Who do you collaborate with?

KTI participates in international organisations and projects, including ETSC, ERSO, IRTAD, and RADAR. Nationally, we cooperate with professional bodies such as Hungarian Public Roads, the Hungarian Bicycle Club, and the Traffic Aptitude and Test Centre.

We also work with educational institutions and municipalities on awareness-raising activities and infrastructure-related studies, including the “Safe Kindergarten” programme.

What advice would you give to organisations working on road safety?

Follow road safety initiatives that have already proven successful and adapt them to local conditions and mobility habits.
