Who is the Malta Road Safety Council , and what is your role as a Charter Ambassador?

The Malta Road Safety Council serves as an advisory body to the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works. Our role as Charter Ambassador is to liaise with national stakeholders, promote road safety initiatives, and support the exchange of knowledge and best practices in Malta.

Why did you decide to join the European Road Safety Charter?

We joined the Charter because road safety is our main priority and it provides opportunities to network with other organisations and access support for our activities. Our council brings together 14 members with expertise in research, transport policy, planning, and road safety, allowing us to contribute informed insights to European discussions.

What are your main focus areas and current projects?

This year, our main focus has been advancing legislation for roadside drug testing. We are proud that a related bill is currently being read in parliament, representing an important step forward in improving road safety in Malta.

Who do you collaborate with?

The council is a member of ETSC and participates in advisory discussions with international partners, including the World Bank, in the development of Malta’s new Road Safety Strategy 2025–2035.

What advice would you give to organisations working on road safety?

Involve stakeholders and do not give up.
