The Municipality of Funchal is the main public authority responsible for urban management in Funchal. It encompasses several fields of intervention, ranging from traffic and mobility, urban planning, waste management, environment, civil protection, and others.
The traffic management is handled by the Traffic and Mobility Division whose focus is to develop and implement traffic calming measures to strenghten road safety, improve accessibility through road restriction policies to promote walkability, fostering of electric mobility, trough the installment of recharge points for EV, testing of innovative technologies, such as parking monitoring through sensors, traffic monitoring through cameras, and traffic lights.
