Graz University of Technology, Vehicle Safety Institute

The aim of the vehicle safety institute at TU Graz is to make mobility safer and more sustainable for everyone. We focus on different forms of mobility (public transport, cars, bicycles, e-scooters, pedestrians,...), vehicle types (electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles,...) and population groups (elderly, gender differences, children,...). We do this by conducting innovative tests and simulations in different environments. We work with industry to influence product development with our latest research findings so that safer protective equipment (e.g. helmets), safer infrastructure (e.g. road restraint systems, intersections) and safer vehicles will lead to less loss of life and health in traffic in the future. Our investigations have resulted not only in publications in leading scientific journals but also in contributions to guidelines for legislation, consumer safety testing, and advances in vehicle safety systems.
