Become a Safe Cyclist and Electric Scooter Rider with HAK

The Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) plays a crucial role in promoting road safety and driver education in Croatia. On September 25, 2024 the manual titled “Become a Safe Cyclist and Electric Scooter Rider” aimed at children and youth was presented at the HAK headquarters in Zagreb. Additionally, HAK participated in a conference titled "Driver – Responsibility for Damage and Compensation" on September 26, 2024, in Zagreb.

Sinan Alispahić, PhD, Assistant Secretary-General of the Croatian Automobile Club, emphasized the importance of traffic safety education for all age groups, stating: “Education brings results”. This underscores HAK's ongoing initiatives to improve public awareness and preventive measures in traffic safety. The manual is part of HAK's broader strategy to cultivate responsible future drivers.

Mr. Ivo Bikić, the President of HAK, noted the necessity of such resources, saying: “In HAK we are aware that many things can happen to children in traffic – therefore, for decades we have been conducting the action Safe to School with HAK”. He added that this manual provides “support and a framework for training children and youth”, which is crucial for their development into responsible road users.

HAK also highlighted the increasing challenges posed by new forms of transportation, such as electric bicycles and scooters. Mr. Alispahić pointed out that while these modes are becoming more popular, they also bring risks that must be managed through education and awareness. He stated: “It is crucial not to halt the development of new mobility out of vulnerability and fear for user safety.” He further emphasized that “greater diversity in types of vehicles and means of transport on our roads should not lead to greater risks”.

In addition to educational efforts, HAK is actively involved in real-time traffic management, providing updates on road conditions and potential hazards through various channels. This service is essential for ensuring safe travel across Croatia's extensive road network.

Overall, HAK remains at the forefront of initiatives aimed at improving road safety and fostering a responsible driving culture in Croatia.
