The Portuguese Road Safety Prevention (PRP) is a non-governmental and non-profitable organisation focused on the improvement of prevention and road traffic safety, aiming the reduction of accidents and its consequences, working in the fields of road safety education, teachers training, development of technical and pedagogical materials, drivers training, traffic offenders rehabilitation courses, consultancy, information and awareness actions and campaigns, data collection, analysis and research.
PRP aim is to provide an impartial source of researched-based advice, on road safety matters to national government and organisations concerned with road safety. PRP seeks to identify and promote effective measures on the basis of national and international research findings, good evidence and best practice, in areas that offer the greatest potential for a reduction in road accidents and casualties. Beyond technical interventions and studies PRP also develop awareness campaigns, international and national seminars and congresses in order to sensitise road users, policy makers and stakeholders towards road accidents subjects. PRP has participated as a partner in several European research projects: ESRA (European Survey of Road users’ safety Attitudes), SARTRE (Social Atitudes to Road Traffic Risk in Europe), CAST (Campaigns and Awareness-raising Strategies in Traffic safety), EUCHIRES (European public awareness campaign on the use of seat belts and child restraint systems), VAMOS (Volunteers always on the move for road safety) ou o SUPREME (Summary and Publication of Best Practices in Road Safety in the Member States).
