Describe your organisation

Since its foundation in 1974 the "Bundesverband der Deutschen Spirituosen-Industrie und -Importeure e. V. - BSI " (Federal Association of the German Spirits Industry and Importers) is the dialogue platform for the German spirits industry, its political mouthpiece and a service provider for its member companies. With around 250 companies as direct members, regional group members, supporting members and cooperation partners, the BSI represents well-known family businesses, craft producers, and international corporations with branches in Germany. The BSI's values relate to diversity, craftsmanship, quality, tradition and culture, as well as responsibility and social sustainability.

Producers and importers of alcoholic beverages are committed to the responsible consumption of alcohol. As much as alcoholic beverages are an integral part of Western cultural history and tradition, the dangers of alcohol abuse should not be underestimated. Personal responsibility and risk awareness through education are key aspects of responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages.

The BSI established the “Working Group on Alcohol and Responsibility” back in 2005. Since then, the committee has been dealing with the BSI's so-called “non-commercial” tasks in order to promote the responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages and reduce abuse. The “Working Group on Alcohol and Responsibility” is therefore involved in initiating, developing, and implementing preventive measures, developed by independent scientific experts on a project-by-project basis:

The three pillars of the work of the BSI's “Working Group on Alcohol and Responsibility” are:

  • Preventive measures
  • Self-regulation (see “Code of Conduct”)
  • Comprehensive consumer information (see “Enjoy in moderation”)
