The European Road Safety Charter was present at the Sixth Global Meeting of Nongovernmental Organizations Advocating for Road Safety and Road Victims. This annual Global Meeting was held from 9 until 13 April 2019, in Chania (Greece). 270 participants were brought together, representing 76 countries worldwide.

The aim of the Global Meeting was to influence the global road safety landscape, mobilizing NGOs to

play their part in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.6 and empowering them to

engage their governments to take the lead in road safety and mobility.

The European Road Safety Charter was presented during the workshop ‘partnerships’. The conference room was completely full with different nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), international experts, United Nations representatives, educators, researchers and private companies. The participants listened with full attention to the explanation and the advantages of the Charter and the exchange of good practices and experiences.

At the end of the workshop different participants asked for further explanation and shared their ideas and experiences, reaching out to other participants by exchanging their contacts. It was an interactive and inspiring Charter workshop with an enthusiastic public.

Three conclusions were shared with them at the end:

  1. A call to NGOs/ Civil society to improve  skills (capacity) to allow effective engagements and maintain effective partnerships

  2. A commitment to share knowledge to avoid duplication

  3. A recommendation to ensure proper leadership with defined structures for sustainable partnerships
