What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?
Svenska Taxiförbundets main objective will be to keep on encouraging its 5,500 member companies to establish and maintain an active road safety program. Svenska Taxiförbundet is now taking the next action by introducing an "Arguments Manual" and a "Self-monitoring Checklist" as means to increase the Road Safety and Quality.
The Arguments Manual for Safer Taxi transports is a nationwide project to educate taxi drivers in Sweden to drive more safely. The project was initiated by Svenska Taxiförbundet and The National Swedish Road Authority. The main objective is to increase the Road Safety as well as the quality in the taxi industry. The education program will give people working in the taxi industry arguments on why Road Safety is important.
The education consists of three main elements; lectures, exercises/discussions and tests. The idea is that the education should be completed in two to three hours. Svenska Taxiförbundet provides a training package which includes instructions and a PowerPoint presentation for the teacher and exercise books and test forms for the participants. Those who pass the test will receive a certificate issued by Svenska Taxiförbundet. Subjects addressed include:
o The connection between Traffic Safety and the company's reputation (brand) on the market
o the impact of speed
o the importance of Safety Belt
o how to transport children in the vehicle
o alcohol and drugs
o rest periods
o equipment and condition of the vehicle
The self-monitoring system is based on a check list similar to what is used by aircraft pilots. In the beginning of each work shift this system gives a taxi driver a possibility to review and ensure that laws and company rules are met and that the driver and vehicle are well prepared to carry out the work with a quality consistent to the level set by the taxi company. The check list includes statements like "My driving license is valid", "The tires and the lights on this vehicle meet the legal requirements" etc. Each statement has a box which should be checked by the driver and after that the driver should put his signature on the check list. The check list and associated document can be ordered from Svenska Taxiförbundet.
Our commitment to increase road safety will involve about 35,000 people, including both full-time and part-time taxi drivers. Svenska Taxiförbundets goal is that 80 percent of its associated taxi companies should have requested the Traffic Safety education package in the end of 2013.
