What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?
In 2006, HGVs represented 16% of traffic on motorways and were involved in 26% of physical accidents. Committing to the safety of drivers and that of our employees is therefore one of our priorities. Also, above and beyond our actions linked to infrastructure quality and road maintenance, we carry out prevention and awareness actions for our customers and employees.
Our commitment: to develop awareness actions for European HGV drivers.
Produce an educational document in several languages to inform HGV drivers as to the specifics of motorway driving: maintaining distance, proximity of personnel on the roads (road works, emergency interventions, tollbooth platforms, etc.), use and respect of the hard shoulder, preventing loss of concentration, reducing speed in accordance with traffic or weather conditions, etc.This document will be published on leaflets, posters and websites and will be disseminated or posted at tolls and lay-bys, sent to HGV remote control toll devices by badge issuers, and posted online on our respective websites.
Organise an annual HGV Safety Day, brining together HGV drivers, educators and motorway company employees to better comprehend the risks and restrictions linked to each profession. This operation will be implemented in partnership with European companies and transport federations.
Disseminate prevention messages for HGV drivers via our variable message sign system and in several languages on our motorway radio stations.
Continue actions already undertaken:
Gatherings during safety days on lay-bys and in our works centres;
Participation in local Road Risk Company clubs;
Partnerships with French transport companies on the theme of safety of motorway employees and HGV drivers: sharing experience, discussing the professions, understanding the restrictions, and providing educational tools (CD-ROMs and DVDs);
Road safety training actions, particularly regarding motorway driving, in the framework of partnerships with driving schools, technical colleges, etc.
