Initiative details
Over the past ten years, we have collaborated with local governments to install 206 smart traffic systems across Slovenia, including speed displays, COPS@road systems, and safety distance monitors. Each installation involves selecting critical points, implementing the system, and monitoring traffic data before and after to evaluate effectiveness. In 2025, we’re focusing on cyclist safety, adding 16 new systems that also warn about cyclists.

Project activities
If you work together with external partners, list the most important partners and briefly describe their role.
Key partners include local municipalities (site selection and cooperation), Zavod Vozim (awareness and education), Yootree Creative (creative communication and campaigns), COPS@road.
Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.
The main challenges include speeding, unsafe following distances, and increased risk for vulnerable road users like cyclists and pedestrians. Slovenia has a high rate of speed-related accidents and fatalities, with a growing number of injuries among cyclists and pedestrians, especially young people. The project addresses these issues with targeted, tech-based solutions.
In terms of implementation, what worked well and what challenges did you need to overcome?
The collaboration with local governments worked well, enabling the targeted installation of systems. A challenge was identifying the most critical locations and ensuring consistent data collection before and after installation.
Evaluation
Please summarise how you have evaluated the initiative’s impact (e.g. social media reach, survey, feedback forms, statistics).
Impact was measured using accident statistics, speed and distance monitoring, before-and-after data analysis, and community feedback.
What has been the effect of the activities?
There was up to 80% reduction in accidents at critical points, fewer speed violations, and improved safety distances between vehicles.
Please briefly explain why your initiative is a good example of improving road safety.
It shows that smart technology and community cooperation can drastically improve road safety without major infrastructure changes.
How have you shared information about your project and its results?
Results have been shared through media outlets, public presentations, YouTube videos, and community engagement activities.
