With our innovative project we want to involve university students in road safety. Slow City is a campaign based on the creation of various short videos made by the students about the benefits of speed reduction in our cities, especially saving lifes. Project activities

If you work together with external partners, list the most important partners and briefly describe their role.

The most important partners have been the road victims that shared their experience of loss and, of course, all the participants. P(A)T presented the contest to the students of the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Investigation team in Education and Road Safety of that same college (Equip d’Investigació en Educació i Seguretat Viària - ERESv) and the Federation of Driving Schools of Catalonia (FAC), which represents 80% of Catalan driving schools, helped by posting the winner video.
The students traveled to Slovenia where they had the opportunity to get to know the Slovenian ONG Zavod Varna Pot and presented their project to the university of Ljubljana.

Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.

For the first edition of this initiative, P(A)T went to Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) and led a first presentation with the students of social education, psychopedagogy and education. Then, a second information session was developed with the help of a victim testimony and the university presented the change of attitude model. Finally, there were some tutoring meeting to solve questions and help mold the videos.
The same students recorded and edited the videos and the group that create the best one had the opportunity to travel and present it in a showcase in the university of Ljubljana (Slovenia), with an all costs paid travel of 4 days.

Evaluation

What has been the effect of the activities?

The effect of Slow City can not be calculated precisely, but we can estimate the approximate number of viewers. The video was watched by all the students in the catalan university UAB, around 20.000 young students and teachers. Also, it was posted in our social media, the university’s and the Federation of Driving Schools of Catalonia’s. Finally, was also watch by the slovenian students to which was exhibited by the same students that recorded it.

Please briefly explain why your initiative is a good example of improving road safety.

Slow City brings closer road safety to youth. We know the difficulty of changing mobility patterns and bad driving habits because we have been working in road safety for more than 50 years, and we know the importance of changing the approach by which we try to do it depending on the age group. With young adults we tried an innovative and original idea of short videos that they could take interest in, and, that way, make a difference.
The goal of our message is respect and coexistence, beyond the regulations and rules, since mobility is constantly changing - an example is the irruption of electric scooters in the cities.

How have you shared information about your project and its results?

The diffusion of the project was made through various means: first of all, our own web and social networks; secondly, the social media of the university and FAC; and finally the Slovenian and Catalan universities.
