Safe Driving Guidance

Initiative details

Governments and administration need to do more to improve road safety. But, the statistics for road traffic accidents are still shocking. Around 90% of all road accidents are caused by human error. That means every year, about a million people die because of other people's mistakes, carelessness, or irresponsibility. So it makes you wonder, are we doing good enough for road safety? Safe Driving, aims to help and informing whole road users about every single issue in Road Traffic from A to Z.

Project activities

Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.

To create a platform where camera footage shot in various countries of the European Union for 4 years is regularly published through presentations and titles by adding content. Thus, to reach as many road users as possible globally during the project, to eliminate the deficiencies in traffic information and to contribute to a safer road traffic.

In terms of implementation, what worked well and what challenges did you need to overcome?

As a retired truck driver, it took a 6-month preliminary work period to learn the computer programs used in the creation of the content, to make auxiliary shots, to bring the content together with data collected from reliable sources and to implement it with the right presentation technique. Although it was difficult, it was also enjoyable.

If you work together with external partners, list the most important partners and briefly describe their role.

Safe Driving is a project where the cameraman, script writer, editor and presenter consist of a single person. No support was received from any institution or organization.

Evaluation

Please summarise how you have evaluated the initiative’s impact (e.g. social media reach, survey, feedback forms, statistics).

Since its establishment, the platform has reached 45,000 users globally and gained momentum with 9 videos and 31 Short Video content in a short period of 3 months. This is expected to increase exponentially. Thanks to the specially added English subtitle support to the content, it is also possible to reach a larger audience than planned, as simultaneous subtitle support is provided for all world languages enabled within Google Translate.

What has been the effect of the activities?

Since Safe Driving is a timeless project, it does not only target a specific working period. Additionally, since it targets all road users rather than a specific group, its impact is not measurable. In the long term, it is possible for it to become an extremely important resource in terms of correctly guiding all road users and contributing to traffic safety.

Please briefly explain why your initiative is a good example of improving road safety.

One of the biggest problems today is the difficulty of accessing accurate and systematic information according to your field of interest. Sometimes you may have difficulty accessing even the smallest information you are looking for due to the chaos and confusion on the internet. This being the case, I think that an archive with simple, systematic but most importantly accurate information, where all road user groups, from children to adults, can easily and quickly access all information about Road Traffic and Safe Driving from a single source, is one of the most necessary things.

How have you shared information about your project and its results?

The Safe Driving project reaches users through social media platforms such as Youtube, Instagram and Facebook.
