What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?
The actions will cover:
• Raising awareness on road safety through the creation of a website that contains maps on the critical points on the road network, statistics, and road safety information days for the road safety of the province.
• Education to citizens and students about the risks, the dangers of non-compliance and the correct road behavior that they should adopt. A presentation will be given at a provincial level where the actions of the Province on the issue of road safety will be demonstrated involving a testimonial, experts from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the political parties concerned.
• Educational campaign that includes the involvement of primary schools through meetings and seminars. The aim will be to raise awareness and train teachers in elementary schools on issues related to road accidents and traffic regulations. The campaign will take place in an experimental phase during 2012 involving the elementary schools of the five largest municipalities in the Province.
• Road safety competition for secondary schools to enable courses of research and knowledge on road safety and to stimulate students' curiosity. Students will be asked to carry out the research theme, examining some of the aspects of road safety directly related to their reality. The work carried out will be collected and evaluated in collaboration with industry experts. The most informative and well-presented submission will receive a prize and will be published on the website of the Province.
• Establishment of a provincial Monitoring Center that will include computerized database of road accidents as well as means of acquisition, processing and dissemination of data. The center will be equipped with, among other things, a decision support system for planning interventions that will facilitate the task of the designer in identifying the critical elements of the network, in calculating the risk factors and to define interventions for the safety. This will enable the decision makers to choose the best solutions for different situations of risk, using a cost / benefit analysis;
• Actions for the dissemination of methodologies and computerized data collection tools of all accidents involving at least 12 local police forces in the area. These will geo-reference traffic accidents (GIS - Georeferenziazione Incidenti Stradali)and highlight risk situations directly on GIS, indicating prevention and control in a timely and complete manner.
The project will involve both institutions and citizens to achieve a "Culture of Safety" to ensure a sharp reduction in accident rates in the province of Frosinone.
