Malta Union of Teachers

What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?

The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) is committed to the European Road Safety Charter, as a trade union and a professional body and it intends to use trade union media that involves regular circulars, newsletter, magazine and website to inform its members about the charter and to promote road safety and traffic regulations. Specifically it wants to address children's road safety issues and its members are best placed within their profession to assist with this:
The MUT will use of its two education magazines to promote road safety 'The Teacher' which is a bi-annual journal targeted for the members of the union. Around 7,500 copies are distributed twice a year and 'Saghtar' this magazine targets school children. Around 12,500 copies are sold monthly. We will focus on pedestrian behaviour and road safety issues to avoid fatalities. We intend to collaborate with teachers who will promote this material and use it in their lessons. We envisage that collaborating teachers will provide good practice ideas to be published in the 'The Teacher magazine'. We will organise a meeting with the editor of 'Saghtar' to discuss and organise contributions in this magazine.

The Health and Safety Teachers in local schools can provide an effective education program to their students and set a programme every year for Maltese schools. We will ask their unit for support and collaboration on road safety issues within school.
