Initiative details
The overall target of the KFV podcast is to provide important and usefull tips for people who care about their personal safety and the well-being of their loved ones in the everyday life.
In each episode of the KFV podcast, two KFV experts talk for around 20 minutes about a topic from everyday life: about current issues of safe road traffic as well as accident-free relaxation during sport and exercise in nature, but also about the pitfalls of getting older as well as the turbulent life with children and teenagers.
With life experience, specialist knowledge and a good dose of humour, both moderators provide important tips and back ground information about accident risks, accident occurrence and accident prevention.
Here is a little taster of the content of the first three episodes published in March 2023, April 2023 and May 2023:
Episode 1: ‘L17: the best route to a driving licence?’
L17 is currently the most comprehensive driver training course on the way to a B driving licence. But driving the first 3,000 kilometres with your own child at the wheel can be nerve-wracking. Is the effort, courage and extra work really worth it?
On air: Monday, 11 March 2023
Episode 2: ‘Starting the motorbike season: why are masking effects life-threatening and ellipses life-saving?’
Motorcycling is back in fashion among the 40-plus generation. Since 2000, the number of motorbikes in Austria has more than doubled. But the streamlined silhouette is also the greatest danger: single-track bikes are virtually invisible in many traffic situations. How can motorcycling remain a safe pleasure?
On air: Monday, 17 April 2023
Episode 3: ‘Children & water: fascination, pleasure, risk. How to ensure water fun - with safety!’
Children and water - that means fun, but it's also a risky combination. For small children, paddling pools just a few centimetres deep can be disastrous if left unattended. What are the best safety measures for swimming pools, garden ponds and the like?

Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.
Since March 2023 the KFV Podcast has been published with a new episode once a month.
Our broad range of topics covers all areas of life in which people are exposed to accident risks. Starting with road traffic, household, property through to sport and leisure.
We also invite renowned people such as transport experts, doctors, marketing specialists, civil servants, influencers, researchers, etc. as studio guests. With them, we provide our listeners with the latest background information, figures, data and facts about accidents. The most important thing, however, is that they provide together with our 2 moderators our listeners with valuable accident prevention tips.
We started in March 2023 and so far we don´t know when we will stop producing new Podcast episode. The reason for that is that we still have a hugh range of topics we would love to provide to our listeners via that medium. Prevention work should never stop.

In terms of implementation, what worked well and what challenges did you need to overcome?
1) The content of our Podcast should be informative, but not too dry or instructive. Too serious a tone could be off-putting, while too much entertainment could trivialise the topic.
2) Professional correctness: Experts or reliable sources must be consulted in order to avoid misinformation. An intensive coordination process is therefore required in advance when drawing up the discussion guide. Because once it's online, it stays there forever
3) Addressing different target groups: Different target groups (e.g. young people, senior citizens, companies) have different needs and should be addressed with suitable formats.
4) Editing and post-production: Editing takes time, especially if interviews, background noises or sound effects are integrated.
Suitable sounds or music for intro/outro and transitions must be licensed or produced in-house.
5) egular episodes require a well thought-out concept and an editorial plan. Suitable guests from accident research, medicine or safety organisations must be found and recruited for interviews.
Coordination of the team: If several people are involved (moderation, technology, editing), clear responsibilities and good communication are required.
6) good marketing: The podcast must be advertised in order to reach a relevant target group (e.g. via social media, cooperations, SEO-optimised descriptions).
7) Appealing formats (storytelling, expert interviews, testimonials) are needed to retain listeners in the long term.

Evaluation
Please summarise how you have evaluated the initiative’s impact (e.g. social media reach, survey, feedback forms, statistics).
We regularly look at the number of hits on our podcast. We also regularly analyse when which podcast episode has been listened to the longest and most frequently; we also conduct evaluation interviews with the people involved: what is going well, where is potential for improvement, who can we get as an interview guest; we also look at the competition and evaluate our accompanying marketing activities.
What has been the effect of the activities?
with each Podast Episode we reach approx. 300 people / month.
With this tool we try to provide prevention tips in a different way as in the past. Our podcast can be listened during daily routines such as keeping household, doing sport, going on public transport etc..
Furthermore this media helps us to provide important tips with life experience, expertise and the right amount of humour.

) Easily accessible: People can listen to podcasts anytime and anywhere - while driving, doing sport or at home. In this way, prevention knowledge reaches the target group directly in their everyday lives.
2) Emotional and personal: Voices, storytelling and interviews appeal to listeners more than pure texts or brochures.
3) Making complex topics understandable: Our experts can easily explain complicated content in conversations, illustrate it with examples and thus raise awareness of prevention.
4) Regular impulses: Through an ongoing series, the topic remains present and can be linked to current cases or new findings.
5) Low-threshold access: No technical jargon necessary - content can be presented in a relaxed, entertaining and everyday way so that prevention is not perceived as ‘instruction’ but as exciting information.
We are convinced that our podcast series is a useful addition to our existing prevention measures. In this way, we are taking a further step towards better accident prevention
