Project activities

If you work together with external partners, list the most important partners and briefly describe their role.

NA

Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.

My role was both the project manager: - to ensure the end to end of the mobile app is developed, rolled out and also as business process manager: - ensuring the business architect and functional requirements and business logics are developed in line with the vision of the product. This project was initiated during the pandemic period around June 2020 and my role in completion to the project ended in May 2022.

Some of the capabilities with respect to road safety context are as AI engine which assess the driver’s risk for the trip, safety control inspection for vehicles, Interactive map feature and the Intelligent inactivity identifier where drivers who have not used the app within a specified time period are automatically provided a refresher of the life-saving rule video.

Evaluation

What has been the effect of the activities?

The mobile adoption coverage currently encompasses 72 countries (globally), with more than 2,900 active contractor drivers registered to use the app and over 10,000 are regular users of the app. The app has aided driving and journey management compliance, contributing to the lowest automotive accident rate in the company’s history. Drivers no longer have to rely on supervisors to create trips for them, this has also significantly reduced the administrative burden on supervisory personnel in creating and managing trips. This has subsequently improved the efficiency of the trip creation process by reducing driver waiting time for trips to be created. Drivers can now see and make informed decisions and have been empowered to take personal ownership of their trips, leading to an increased sense of responsibility in implementing the journey management process and trip management.

The digital journey management app continues to enable effective and safety journey management processes are maintained in remote operations and pandemic conditions, in addition significant cost savings were achieved. The adoption and effective use of the new enhancements to the journey management app improve journey management efficiency and ultimately driving safety performance.

Please briefly explain why your initiative is a good example of improving road safety.

The roadway is an extension of our workplace and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

This Journey management app helps minimize unnecessary trips, includes a planned systematic process of reducing transportation risk with company operations. Even if trips are created by drivers, approval level is there to ensure only business critical trips are approved and allowed. Only qualified drivers are allowed to drive the required vehicles. Drivers understand their responsibility and they take the ownership of the trip ensuring both themselves and others on the road are safe.
