Project activities

If you work together with external partners, list the most important partners and briefly describe their role.

The project was done by me; Kweku Bolton. I prefinanced the whole project.

Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.

The video documentary project exposes the road menace and misery of road accidents in Ghana. The project also influences positive decision which brings solution to road safety issues.
The Road Safety documentary project was started in July, 2022 and completed in December, 2022. For the purpose of documentary, I gathered data from the community through dialogue. Interviews, observation and investigation and documentation. I used different investigative approaches to discover uncomfortable information through the uses of Cameras and accessories, tripod, light, microphones, among others, to gather credible information before accomplishing the project, which was aired on TV and online.

Evaluation

What has been the effect of the activities?

The documentary, which is still showing on national TV stations include GBC News, GTV, DSTV Channel 278 and other social medial platforms. It has reached billions of people across the world. My road safety documentary project has reached international recognition due to some of things I able to exposed. My project also influences positive decision that brings solution to road accidents.
The road safety authorities are expecting crashes, injuries and death to be reduced this year and the years ahead. The documentary revealed that many road accident victims do not benefit from car insurance especially hit and run victims. The National Insurance Commission and Police service have started checking on driver who don’t have valid car insurance, driver’s license and road wealthy certificate and those who don’t obey road safety regulations.
In a bid to ensure that road accidents are minimised, it is important for both the government and other stakeholders involved in the transport sector, to take a critical look at all the causative factors of accidents on our roads.

Please briefly explain why your initiative is a good example of improving road safety.

Everyday, people experience pain, agony and tears through road accidents. The road safety documentary exposes the menace and misery of road accidents. With a hidden camera, I found out that some drivers and mechanics mix brake fluids with water while others too use cooking oil in repairing vehicles. However, this practice is frown upon by international standards. The Road Safety Act is against drink driving, but my camera captured some divers who drink and drive. My cheeks exposed most drivers of commercial vehicles have disconnected 2 of these brakes, posing danger on the roads. other drivers also use worn-out tyres for their vehicle which affect the performance of the vehicles.

How have you shared information about your project and its results?

My road safety documentary has been aired on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation stations including GBCNews TV and GTV. I also shared through Facebook and YouTube; https://youtu.be/WbStC2cD4Ag.
Many stakeholders, including the general public were shocked about the impact of the documentary. Some road authorities have started fixing bad road networks and security officials have arrested some road offenders.
