Background
To achieve the EU’s ‘Vision Zero’ goal of eliminating fatalities and serious injuries by 2050, the EU has set a target to halve road deaths and serious injuries by 2030. Achieving Vision Zero requires action from all sectors, including public authorities at all levels, companies, NGOs, associations, educational institutions, and individuals.
Since its launch by the European Commission in 2004, the European Road Safety Charter has grown into the largest civil society platform for road safety. With over 4,000 members—including businesses, automobile clubs, associations, schools, and local authorities—the Charter encourages organisations to commit to concrete, measurable actions. The Excellence in Road Safety Awards have recognised outstanding and impactful initiatives since 2006.
Applicants for the 2025 awards do not have to be existing European Road Safety Charter members but must join to apply.
