Initiative details
Young and inexperienced drivers are a key target group for road safety because safe driving requires more than passing a formal test. It requires understanding rules, recognising risks, building long-term knowledge and applying that knowledge under pressure. Traditional theory education can be limited by fixed course times, uneven learner engagement, fragmented communication and a lack of real-time visibility into individual weaknesses. As a result, some learners only discover knowledge gaps shortly before the exam or after they enter traffic as licensed drivers. DriveHero addresses this challenge by moving the driving school process into a digital, data-supported and learner-centred environment. The platform helps learners prepare more consistently, at their own pace and with targeted support. Its AI assistant, Aurum, provides 24/7 guidance, while analytics and reporting help driving instructors identify where learners need additional explanation or practice. By making learning more personalised, transparent and accessible, DriveHero aims to improve theory knowledge, increase exam readiness and contribute to safer behaviour among new drivers.

Project activities
If you work together with external partners, list the most important partners and briefly describe their role.
DriveHero works with LMU Munich in a scientifically accompanied pilot programme. The university partner supports evidence-based evaluation of the platform, including learning behaviour, user experience and potential educational impact. This partnership strengthens the credibility of the initiative and helps ensure that the product is not only technically innovative, but also pedagogically and scientifically grounded. Additional partners and stakeholder formats include driving schools participating in pilot or implementation activities, industry and association events, Verbandstage and CIECA-related exchange formats. Their role is to provide market feedback, practical insights from driving school operations and access to the broader driver education ecosystem. Further partner details, including named driving schools, associations, research contacts and pilot participants, should be added before final submission.
Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.
DriveHero is developing and implementing a modular digital platform for driving schools and learner drivers. The platform combines learner management, course and appointment administration, digital learning processes, communication, reporting, AI support and identity verification in one integrated system. For learner drivers, DriveHero provides access via web and app, progress indicators, learning-status analysis, chat-based support and personalised learning assistance through the AI assistant Aurum, in every mother tongue needed. For driving schools, the system supports student and instructor administration, course planning, documentation, automated reports, utilisation monitoring and communication. A key activity is the development of AI-supported learning journeys. Aurum answers questions in real time, supports learners with booking and navigation tasks, and helps structure the learning process. The platform is designed to support intelligent repetition, exam simulations and the identification of learning gaps. DriveHero is also conducting a scientifically accompanied pilot programme with LMU Munich to validate the concept and generate evidence on learning outcomes and user experience. Dissemination activities include participation in events, association days and sector formats such as CIECA, as well as exchange with driving schools and relevant stakeholders. DriveHero has already gained close to 100 registered driving schools, creating a strong basis for field testing the platform under real operating conditions. This is also used by LMU already to gain feedback and onboard driving schools. In addition, DriveHero has collected practical feedback through industry events and stakeholder formats, ensuring that the platform is developed in direct exchange with the driving school market.
In terms of implementation, what worked well and what challenges did you need to overcome?
What works particularly well is the integrated approach. Instead of relying on separate tools for administration, learning, communication, reporting and identity verification, DriveHero brings these processes together in one modular platform. This reduces friction for driving schools and makes the learning journey clearer for students. The AI assistant Aurum also creates a strong user benefit because learners can receive help outside normal office or classroom hours, while instructors gain better insight into progress and weaknesses. The main implementation challenges are typical for highly regulated and safety-relevant education markets. Driving schools need reliable, legally compliant and easy-to-use solutions; learners need intuitive access; and stakeholders need evidence that digital and AI-supported learning improves, rather than merely digitises, existing processes. Another challenge is trust: AI-supported education must be transparent, privacy-conscious and aligned with official curricula. This is also needed to address the language challenges in education, the growing requirements of regulation, more expensive driving licenses. DriveHero addresses this through a modular system design, DSGVO-compliant processes, integrated digital verification, analytics and the scientific pilot with LMU Munich. Further work is needed to quantify learning outcomes, exam performance and road-safety impact at scale.
Evaluation
Please summarise how you have evaluated the initiative’s impact (e.g. social media reach, survey, feedback forms, statistics).
DriveHero evaluates its initiative through a combination of platform analytics, user feedback and scientific validation. The platform itself is designed to make learning progress measurable: learner activity, course participation, completion of learning modules, progress indicators, identified knowledge gaps, exam simulation results and interactions with the AI assistant Aurum can be tracked and analysed. This allows driving schools and instructors to understand where learners need additional support and to intervene earlier in the training process. In addition, DriveHero is currently being tested in a scientifically accompanied pilot programme with LMU Munich. The purpose of this pilot is to evaluate how an AI-supported digital theory platform can improve learning behaviour, transparency and learner support in driving education. The evaluation should include both quantitative indicators, such as usage frequency, learning progress and exam readiness, and qualitative feedback from learner drivers, driving instructors and participating driving schools. At this stage, DriveHero is building a structured evidence base. The current evaluation focuses on measurable intermediate outcomes directly relevant to road safety: improved theory knowledge, more consistent learning behaviour, earlier identification of weaknesses, better preparation for the theory exam and more targeted instructor support.
What has been the effect of the activities?
The activities carried out through DriveHero have created a structured digital environment that makes driver education more transparent, accessible and measurable. For learner drivers, the platform supports more consistent preparation by providing flexible access to theory-learning content, progress indicators, learning-status analysis and 24/7 assistance through the AI assistant Aurum. This helps learners identify weaknesses earlier, repeat difficult topics more effectively and prepare for the theory exam in a more targeted way. For driving schools, DriveHero improves the ability to monitor learner progress and provide timely support. Automated reports, centralised communication and analytics reduce manual administrative effort and give instructors a clearer overview of each learner's status. As a result, instructors can focus their time more effectively on educational guidance and on students who need additional help. The road-safety effect lies primarily in prevention. While long-term effects on crashes, injuries and fatalities still need to be measured over time, DriveHero contributes to road safety by improving exam readiness, risk awareness, learning continuity and instructor-led intervention. The modular platform can support education locally, regionally and potentially nationally.
Please briefly explain why your initiative is a good example of improving road safety.
DriveHero is a good example because it addresses road safety before risky behaviour occurs: during the training phase of future drivers. The initiative focuses on prevention, knowledge quality and continuous learning. By combining AI-supported learning, analytics, instructor visibility and flexible access, the platform helps learners prepare more effectively for safe participation in road traffic. The initiative is also transferable. Driving schools of different sizes can use the modular system, from small local schools to multi-location organisations. The model can be replicated because it does not depend on a single classroom, instructor or region. Other organisations can learn from DriveHero's integrated approach: road safety education becomes more effective when learning progress is measurable, support is available when learners need it, and instructors have data to guide intervention. DriveHero therefore represents a scalable good practice for modernising driver education while keeping road safety at the centre.
How have you shared information about your project and its results?
DriveHero has shared the initiative through direct engagement with driving schools, pilot partners, industry events, association days and specialist road-safety and driver-education forums. Relevant formats include Verbandstage, CIECA-related events and presentations to stakeholders in the driving school and mobility education ecosystem. The company website and product demonstrations are used to explain the platform's functionality and benefits. For the final submission, this section should include concrete visibility data: events attended, dates, number of participants reached, presentation titles, social media reach, website traffic, press mentions, partner newsletters and any media coverage.
