What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?

We will increase road safety amongst our employees, improving our standard safety activities in the following ways:
TRAINING
Eco-Driving Training, including road safety aspects
Eco-Driving is a one-day training course, consisting of a theoretical part and practical exercises in safe, economical and environmentally-friendly driving.
70 subcontractors’ drivers will be trained during autumn 2006 and 2007. The training will be introduced at a subcontractors’ meeting in Turku in September 2006.
30 DHL couriers will be trained during the year 2007.

Training concerning dangerous goods
Each year, about 30 employees will be given a half-day awareness-building training session or a two-day training session concerning the transport of dangerous goods on the road and at sea.
All drivers will be required to have a dangerous goods transport licence.

Training as a part of everyday work
The Driver’s Manual will be a constant tool, as it includes guidelines for drivers concerning responsibilities, liabilities and safety instructions.
Safety matters related to the drivers’ work will be kept on the agenda in the monthly meetings headed by the supervisors.
The appropriate fastening of loads will be checked at least monthly, with random checks made by DHL personnel.
An environmental and safety inspection routine for our premises will be implemented. Our 10 terminals will be checked by our internal auditors during winter 2006-2007.

FLEET MANAGEMENT
We will ensure that our fleet incorporates the latest technical and safety standards:
The average age of our fleet is and will be approximately three years.
Some 250 new trailers and trucks will be purchased each year as replacements.
The fleet will be constantly maintained to secure the safety of our vehicles.
