Describe your organisation

Our school is the Junior High School of Petraki Kyprianou in Larnaca. It is the newest Junior High School not just in Larnaca but in the country (est. 2011). It has 415 students and around to 60 teachers. Our students come from many countries (Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Greece, Poland, Romania, Russia and Bulgaria). The population of the school reflects the social and economic situation of the territory: a significant number of our pupils come from deprived families in terms of social and cultural, which show lack of confidence in the educational institution, neglect and modest interest in the educational process undertaken by the children. Our institute is a Public Middle School for students at the age of 12-15 offering a curriculum of a variety of subjects including Mathematics, Sciences, Geography, History, Ancient Greek, Modern Greek, English, French, Music, Art, Home Economics, Technology, Physical Education and Information Technology. Most of the subjects are theoretical but some of them offer hands on activities and project work that promote the motivation and achievement of the students. Our school provides supportive lessons to 75 of our students in subjects like Greek Literacy, Maths and Sciences. Even though those students are fully integrated into the class, we pay attention to them and their special needs by cooperating with the Cypriot Welfare Office, the Cypriot Social Service Office, Health Centres, Educational specialist and Psychological therapist, who support their educational process.
