Describe your organisation

We, Bundesverband der Deutschen Spirituosen-Industrie und -Importeure
e. V. (the federal association of the German spirits industry and importers), Deutsche Weinakademie GmbH (the German wine academy), Deutsche Brauer-Bund
e. V. (the German association of brewers), Verband Deutscher Sektkellereien e. V. (the association of German sparkling wine producers) and Private Brauereien Deutschland e. V. (the association of private breweries in Germany), are aware of the problem of accidents caused by alcohol, particularly involving young drivers, and the risks resulting from the general misuse of alcohol and have therefore decided to make a continual and active contribution to the reduction of these problems and the improvement of general traffic safety.

The initiators of the initiative ‘DDAD’ signed the European Road Safety Charter (ERSC) for the first time in August 2008 and have since supported the aim of reducing the annual number of those dying in traffic accidents in Europe to 25,000. With this renewed signing the associations show responsibility and undertake publically to continue their commitment to the initiative ‘DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE’.

The initiative ‘DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE (DDAD)’ has existed since 1993 and is thus one of the oldest ongoing traffic safety initiatives in Germany. Thus the leading associations in the sectors of beer, wine, sparkling wine and spirits are undertaking a joint preventative contribution to the reduction of accidents in Germany that are caused by alcohol. The aim of the DDAD initiative is to further reduce the number of accidents caused by alcohol. The initiative is aimed primarily at young, male drivers between the ages of 18 and 24. Statistics tell us that this group is involved disproportionately frequently in car accidents.

The individual components of the initiative are as follows: the event component ‘DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE Academy’ (formerly ‘Party Patrol’), the website www.ddad.de, the Facebook fan page www.facebook.com/ddad, the YouTube channel www.youtube.com/ddadtube and the ‘Party Box’ for gastronomy operations and event organisers.
