Institut VEDECOM is a French Institute for Energy Transition (Institut pour la Transition Énergétique – ITE) dedicated to research, innovation and experimentation in sustainable, connected, automated and decarbonised mobility. VEDECOM covers the innovation chain from research and technology development to prototyping, experimentation, real-world demonstration, trainsing and capacity building. Its R&D activities are structured around three main competence domains: electromobility, including charging technologies, energy optimisation, standardisation and integration with energy infrastructure; automated and connected mobility, including perception, artificial intelligence, embedded systems, C-ITS based safety detection, monitoring and supervision, V2X connectivity and testing of automated systems; and mobility uses and impacts, covering user behaviour, urban and rural safety, socio-economic assessment, multi modal mobility services, deployment strategies and territorial impacts. At the strategic level, VEDECOM currently organises its activities around five programmes: electromobility and energy optimisation; automated vehicles, data and connected infrastructure; attractive and inclusive multimodal mobility; mobility impact analysis; and intermediate/light vehicle solutions. Its distinctive role is to act as an ecosystem integrator and trusted third party, connecting technological research with the operational needs of industry, transport operators and public authorities and enabling solutions to be tested under realistic conditions before deployment.
