Describe your organisation
Dviračių kultūra is a Lithuania-based non-profit focused on shifting how society understands and uses bicycles—from a leisure or sport activity into a practical, everyday urban transport mode.
At its core, the organization works on behavior change and system building, not just advocacy. The strategic aim is to increase cycling as daily mobility (e.g., commuting, school trips), contributing to reduced congestion, lower emissions, and healthier populations.
Its activities are structured across the full lifecycle of a person:
- Children (5–12): Programs like “Dviračiais į mokyklą” build early habits, teaching safe and routine-based cycling to school.
- Youth (18–25): Engagement through volunteering, internships, and community involvement—turning cycling into identity and social capital.
- Working age (25–65): Initiatives such as “Dviračiais į darbą” and “Bike & Earn” integrate cycling into daily commuting, often in partnership with employers.
- Seniors (65+): Social rides and community-based activities aimed at maintaining mobility and inclusion.
In parallel, the organization develops support infrastructure and ecosystem tools:
- A network of local cycling hubs (education, maintenance, community)
- Partnerships with municipalities, schools, and companies
- Communication platforms to normalize cycling as transport
- Data-driven programs (e.g., CO₂ savings, mobility tracking)
The distinguishing feature is that it treats cycling not as an isolated activity, but as part of a national mobility transition model—combining education, infrastructure, incentives, and culture change into one system.
