Please describe the main road safety challenges/problems you have addressed or are addressing.
The idea of carrying out specific Emergency Driving Safe courses for rescue vehicles, especially ambulances, also arises from a great need to fill the regulatory gap. In fact, according to Italian law, an ambulance can be driven after obtaining a B license, provided that at least 3 years have elapsed (as the newly licensed driver in the first three years has constraints and limitations concerning the vehicle, speed, etc.), not below the age of 21 years old. In our opinion this is a great limitation, because the ambulance is not a simple vehicle, as the driver, in addition to having practical skills in driving the rescue vehicle, must be adequately prepared to face situations of emotional and psychological stress, must know the rules that allow it how and when to use the blue flashing light and additional sound signaling devices. Added to this is another fundamental aspect, the ambulance driver in addition to the assistance team, transports the patient, a person who has special needs, potentially could also have diseases that compromise his life. Therefore the driver must be able to reach the target as quickly as possible, while maintaining safety, and transport the person to the hospital in the right time. In certain pathologies, driving behavior is also very important, so it becomes essential for the driver to know how the stress caused by transport can directly affect the patient's clinical condition. By virtue of these considerations, a session concerning these aspects is planned in the training program.
