Please describe the main road safety challenges/problems you have addressed or are addressing.
Unfortunately, Romania is one of the worst performers in improving road safety from EU. Even from his accession to UE Member States, Romania keeps leading in the top 3 countries with the most road accident fatalities in UE.

•For example, Romania and Bulgaria were the EU Member States with the highest road fatality rates in 2018, according to preliminary figures published by the European Commission (EC). In fact, Romania and Bulgaria were the only two EU states with a fatality rate higher than 80 deaths per million inhabitants. For the majority of Member States, the road fatality rate was below 60 deaths per million inhabitants in 2018.

•There were around 96 deaths per million inhabitants in Romania last year, and 88/million in Bulgaria. The rate reported for Romania was 4% lower in 2018 vs. 2017 and 21% lower when compared to 2010, the same data show. Still, Romania ranks first, far away from the European Union average of 49 deaths per million inhabitants and much further from the EU countries with the lowest rates such as Denmark (30/million), Ireland (31/million), and Sweden (32/million).

•In this regard, we started The Road Safety Class project, where we aim to educate children on how to act as responsable traffic participants, because we belive that for the long term, the education may be the key of all problems.

•Moreover, we are aware that the infrastructure is maybe the biggest problem in this equation, but our statistics show that the poor road safety education in Romania, which results from the high number of accidents caused by pedestrians and by the high number of children involved in accidents, are at least as important as the infrastructure. • These being said, our project's mission is not only to fight against the lack of awareness by increasing the attention to this issue, but to change the attitude and most important... to educate the future drivers!
What are your objectives?
Increasing the level of road education amongst high school students
Forming and training of teachers in the field of road education
Increasing the involvement of competent authorities
Awareness of students, parents and road users about the consequences of non-compliance with traffic rules
“Road Safety Class at Highschool” is a project that was born from the undeniable success of “Road Safety Class” project which was developed between 2015 and 2019 throughout Bucharest, the Capital of Romania, reaching not less than 65.000 3th and 4th graders. “Road Safety Class” became the most complex and extensive road safety project that has ever been implemented in Romania. At the moment of speaking, we are requested by parents, high school executives and authorities to develop this project further, introducing it into high schools of Bucharest, for the future drivers which are now 11th and 12th graders. Until now, 2 editions of “Road Safety Class at Highschool” have been implemented and the next is yet to come at the end of 2019.In November and December of 2018 we developed the first edition of the project “Road Safety Class at Highschool", which was followed by the second edition which took place between 1-19 of April 2019.More than 3000 pupils from the 11th and 12th grades, current and future drivers, have actively participated at the classes, while other 20.000 have been aware about the project through offline and online promotional materials.Road Safety Class at Highschool involved one of the most important national and local administrative institutions, such as:• The Inspectorate for Emergency Situations• The General Inspectorate of Romanian Police• School Inspectorate of Bucharest• City Hall of Bucharest• Center of Educational and Sports Projects – Bucharest (PROEDUS)With the help of the mentioned institutions and its partners, the E.D.I.T.
