Please describe the main road safety challenges/problems you have addressed or are addressing.
Unfortunately, Romania is one of the worst performers in improving road safety from EU. Even from his accession to UE Member States, Romania keeps leading in the top 3 countries with the most road accident fatalities in UE.

•For example, Romania and Bulgaria were the EU Member States with the highest road fatality rates in 2018, according to preliminary figures published by the European Commission (EC). In fact, Romania and Bulgaria were the only two EU states with a fatality rate higher than 80 deaths per million inhabitants. For the majority of Member States, the road fatality rate was below 60 deaths per million inhabitants in 2018.

•There were around 96 deaths per million inhabitants in Romania last year, and 88/million in Bulgaria. The rate reported for Romania was 4% lower in 2018 vs. 2017 and 21% lower when compared to 2010, the same data show. Still, Romania ranks first, far away from the European Union average of 49 deaths per million inhabitants and much further from the EU countries with the lowest rates such as Denmark (30/million), Ireland (31/million), and Sweden (32/million).

•In this regard, we started The Road Safety Class project, where we aim to educate children on how to act as responsable traffic participants, because we belive that for the long term, the education may be the key of all problems.

•Moreover, we are aware that the infrastructure is maybe the biggest problem in this equation, but our statistics show that the poor road safety education in Romania, which results from the high number of accidents caused by pedestrians and by the high number of children involved in accidents, are at least as important as the infrastructure. • These being said, our project's mission is not only to fight against the lack of
awareness by increasing the attention to this issue, but to change the attitude and most important... to educate!
What are your objectives?
Increase the road safety education level
Train 25,000 3rd & 4th graders yearly
Increase the involvement level of public authorities
Increase the awareness of children, parents and road users about the importance of traffic rules in the proximity of schools
Evaluation
What has been the effect of the activities?
-The project is in its fifth year of progress. On its 3rd edition, in 2016, we started a study in which we observed the pupils' capacity to understand information offered during class. The study revealed that the manner in which we teach the road safety aspects to children is comprehensible and easy to learn. However, this quantitative study couldn't provide us information regarding the manner in which the pupils begin to implement the aspects discussed with the lecturers. On the 5th edition, in 2019, we've launched a vast research endeavor in which we studied the children's living environment regarding road safety. We've conducted a survey on 1000 pupils from which we've learned about the inappropiate conduct they've been exposed to.For the upcoming edition, we will integrate the information we've gathered so far in order to involve the childrens' parents, who are the first and most intimate vectors of teaching responsibility in traffic.In addition, we will involve the childrens' teachers in order to provide us with feedback.
How have you shared information about your project and its results?
We conduct studies and research which we make public to the authorities, public and media institutions.
Moreover, we invest in comunication and promotion on social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and we power up some public events and press conferences after the projects we have ended.
How many people did you reach/have you reached?
Who carried/carries out the evaluation activities?
External evaluation
Internal evaluation
When did/will you carry out the evaluation?
Before, after and continuous monitoring
Please describe the evaluation tools you use (i.e. surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.)
We used and are still using surveys as evaluation tools;
feedback forms;
questionaires targeting some basic concepts of road safety behaviours
