Name of action 

ŽSR has prepared preventive-safety DVD campaign “Stop and Survive” comprising all the basic information on level crossing types, on statistics about number of accidents at level crossings in the last decade. Subsequently, all the most often situation occurring at level crossings has been captured also with quotation of legislation. Demonstrations are realized in two variants - incorrect, highlighting the most common and unfortunately not rare errors which road users commit. Each incorrect demonstration is followed by a demonstration of how to properly cross a level crossing, respectively proper behavior at level crossing. DVDs were distributed to driving schools and also the DVD is available at the website, in the case of interest it will be provided to other organizations and schools.The aim is to make the DVD available to the public and the media in order to highlight extraordinary seriousness and tragic dimension of such collisions and remind an imminent danger, which has in one moment of carelessness or thoughtlessness consequences in the form of unnecessary deaths, serious injuries and property damage. The DVD also comprises photos from real accidents that have occurred at railway crossings. With this authentic part ŽSR would like to appeal on every road user to reconsider their behavior while crossing a level crossing and to act with extreme caution and observe the provisions of the Law on Road Traffic.

On the day of the International Level Crossing Awareness Day, ILCAD 2014  – June 3rd, 2014  in cooperation with police forces monitoring action were carried out aimed at checking compliace of traffic rules and sefety while crossing a level crossings – adherence to maximum speed limit, correctness of passing a level crossing, etc.

Zhelko´s Kindergarten: ŽSR´s mascot for safety at level crossings is railwaymen hedgehog, which has been named “Zhelko“. The book Zhelko´s Kindergarten has been a great success among children, parents and teachers and ŽSR has undertook to transform it into animated fairy tales. So far only the first three parts have been realized, in addition to animated part on dangerous events related to rail, real movie passages has been filmed with specific information on rail in each part focusing on a different area of ​​the railway. DVD has been distributed to educational institutions in the Slovak Republic in partnership with Regional School Authorities.
