Please describe the main road safety challenges/problems you have addressed or are addressing.
Number of fatalities (pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, moped riders) on the Latvian auto roads, especially during weak visibility period, grows. For the first time since 2001, there had been an increase of the total number of deaths in 2013 where vulnerable road users composed 53,6%. Tendency in 2014 indicates that this number is not decreasing.Latvian citizens in their majority are still influenced by the post-crisis period. In order to save their financial resources, they buy cheap and old cars. As a result during week visibility period increases the risk to get into a car accident, while driving a car which is out of technical order. It is important to cultivate the good practice behaviour on roads for the purpose of increase of road safety with the evaluation of the FIA 10 Golden rules. Such a measure will help to improve road safety not only for vehicle drivers and their passengers but also for other road users and pedestrians.
What are your objectives?
To draw motorists' attention to the risks and dangers while driving a car with technical disorder including car tyre pressure, lighting and other security measures.
To perform free of charge car technical inspection in various Latvian cities.
To remind drivers about the FIA 10 Golden rules.
