Eco League is Girteka's initiative carried out without any partners.
Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.
Drive smart and safe! – this is the main objective and goal of the motivational initiative for economical and environmentally friendly driving “EKO League”. ECO League is a motivational program for drivers at Girteka Logistics to encourage safe and economical driving. By employing this initiative, we strive to reduce the risk of errors and accidents while protecting the environment and ensuring the quality of our services.
The first season of the ECO League started on July 1, 2018, and continued until December 31. The League welcomed drivers who participated in ECO training. The following criteria were used to calculate the ECO score: empty mileage, ground run, autopilot, brake pushes, sudden braking, stops, and engine load (the exact points are written down on the website). During the half-year competition, the driving style of drivers was being evaluated. Depending on the economic indicator collected, participants fell into a relevant league: bronze, silver, gold or platinum. Each of the drivers had the opportunity to rise from a lower qualification group to a higher one and vice versa.
On January 9, 2019 Vilnius Transport Unit of Girteka Logistics welcomed the winner of the first ECO League season. The winner was Laimutis Gervinskas, a longtime employee of Girteka Logistics. He collected 97.19 points of economic driving. The driver, who won the ECO League, was awarded a holiday travel voucher of 1000 euro. A total of 24 drivers of the PLATINUM league were awarded. Their eco-driving score was over 90.
Drivers who took 1-3 places in the GOLD league also received awards. Their driving performance ranged from 89.38 to 89.54 points.
ECO league rules:
- Two seasons a year: Season One: 1st July – 31st December; Season Two: 1st January – 30th June.
- Only drivers who have passed their ECO training can take part in the League.
- Drivers compete only within their group which is based on their fleet (ie: EU/SK/DF/NOR/RU).
- Everyone has the opportunity to rise from the lower qualification group and vice versa.
- Drivers will be informed about their personal ECO driving results every week.
* Trip day coefficient depends on the number of days worked in the League period (max coefficient is 1.0).
As the “Girteka Logistics” group of companies continues to grow, the number of participants in the “EKO League” project increases with every season, making winning more and more difficult! With more than 18,000 drivers currently working at Girteka Logistics, who are intensively learning the eco-driving program in the Training Academy, the competition among the participants has increased significantly in season 7!

Evaluation
What has been the effect of the activities?
EKO LEAGUE project is paired with the Drivers Academy and they are important not only for the organization but also for the environment: the Training Academy helps every one of the organization’s 18,000+ drivers to develop their professional skills. In 2021 alone, more than 60,000 training courses were held, including eco-driving, road safety, and industry regulations. We focus on eco-driving – a modern, fast, smart, and responsible way of driving that helps to save fuel, take care of the vehicle and, most importantly, reach the destination safely. Being one of the biggest companies with 10000 trucks and 11000 trailers, Girteka's impact on nature is great, therefore every mile saved and every smaller t percent of CO2 emission reduced per one driver has a great impact globally.
