Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.
The study is mainly targeted at professionals in the field of road safety, as well as towards local and county authorities. A secondary target group is all other people who are interested in road safety. Its most important goal is to contribute to cutting down the high number of traffic events by discussing the factors which influence car speed and by suggesting solutions regarding speed management. A series of studies on speed management have been developed over time by various institutions at international level. The conclusions of different perspectives on excessive speed are similar: speed is one of the main causes of deaths on the roads and a main risk factor for traffic collisions, but all speed management measures must be primarily reflected in the design of the road. Our study represents a cumulus of these approaches on speed management and presents simple solutions which do not require major financial efforts. As per Police statistics, the number of road accidents dropped in 2023, in comparison with 2022. The slight decrease in this number coupled with a decrease in the number of people injured or deceased in traffic events can also be the result of several initiatives in the field of road safety, ours included. At the same time, it has been proved that knowledge from scientific studies can help complement the information from traffic accidents statistics and point at specific road safety issues. Such data can be a necessity in drafting the national road safety plan for each country. We need a sound policy based on scientific evidence to make sure that the right solutions are implemented when it comes to the safety of our roads. All countries should seek to adopt and promote a target of zero fatalities on the road while analyzing what could be achieved on short, medium and long term. Proper evaluation and assessment of future trends can contribute to the achievement of the desired results. Road safety campaigns have also demonstrated their impact, however, mostly only on short term. They have succeeded in making people aware of the importance of exerting caution when driving. As our study points out, when a community becomes convinced that high speed is unacceptable, it will be more willing to support other speed reduction measures, as well. Our press release was issued in February, 2023, and appeared on several local and national news websites. At the same time, the announcement regarding the launching of the study was published on the European Road Safety Charter website. The study was registered also as a Mobility Action as part of European Mobility Week 2023.

In terms of implementation, what worked well and what challenges did you need to overcome?
Evaluation
Please summarise how you have evaluated the initiative’s impact (e.g. social media reach, survey, feedback forms, statistics).
What has been the effect of the activities?
Please briefly explain why your initiative is a good example of improving road safety.
