Lockerbie Academy has integrated road safety in its educational programme, in physics through the themes of speed, velocity, distance and braking. Together with Police Scotland, students simulated road crashes. They surveyed parents and teachers about their awareness of driving in bad conditions and worked on a plan to assist drivers in different traffic situations. Recently we added a safe winter drive campaign where the Police taught the students how to do winter car checks and then the students went to a local supermarket and under police and teacher guidance checked local cars..
CSW Online is a technological solution to modernise The Community Speedwatch initiative and co-ordinate groups on behalf of the Police. As a group of experienced Speedwatch volunteers ourselves and professional software developers, our team has developed and introduced a web-based application platform to manage all aspects of Community Speedwatch activity.
Every four minutes a child is prematurely lost on the roads of this world.Many more are injured, often severely. Throughout the world, roads are bustling with people operating cars, buses, trucks, motorcycles, and mopeds; with pedestrians and other types of road users. Travel made possible by motor vehicles supports economic and social development in many countries and makes transporting goods and people fast and easy. Despite these benefits, however, motor vehicles are involved in accidents that are responsible for millions of deaths and injuries every year worldwide.
In partnership with a local motorcycle training school we deliver an awareness training course to new and young riders. Following a comprehensive review of the casualty patterns and rider profiles, we have developed a programme to encourage riders to attend a 2 hour session prior to their compulsory basic training to deliver information on rider position, basic maintenance, but more importantly about anticipation, and awareness of road dangers. To date 210 young people have taken part. The course is based on constructivism educational approach and uses the C-BOM behaviour change model.
