I deliver a workshop to children aged 11 to 13 during their Life Skills Week initiative. After introducing a small but relevant highway code quiz, we spend time looking at how they can't effectively do two things at once (use technology and cross the road safely) and produce a Road Safety Policy for their school.

Throughout the world, roads are bustling with people operating cars, buses, trucks, motorcycles and mopeds; with pedestrians and other types of road users. Travel made possible by motor vehicles supports economic and social development in many countries and makes transporting goods and people fast and easy. Despite these benefits, however, motor vehicles are involved in accidents that are responsible for millions of deaths and injuries every year worldwide. Globally, every-year, about 1.3 million people are killed in motor vehicle accidents and 20-50 million more are seriously injured.

Road Zero Group Ltd. is a not for profit road safety campaign organisation for the 5 main areas of concern for Road traffic collisions, Zero Fatalities is all about eliminating fatalities on our roadways. Some people may think zero is an impossible goal, but when it comes to your life, or the lives of your friends and family, what other number would be acceptable? We’re aiming for Zero Fatalities because everyone matters.

Blue Light Aware is an information and training video produced on behalf of the Emergency Services. The aim is simple - to help educate the general public on what to do to help an emergency vehicle on a "blue light run." By better understanding the needs of the emergency driver, the general public can reduce the risks that they face by acting appropriately when driving.

Deaths among cyclists represent a swaggering share of all road fatalities. The most fatal accidents for cyclists are those with buses, LGVs and HGVs. Accidents occurring due to the blind spot of a lorry turning right account to almost a third of all serious cyclist-lorry accidents.

Road Safety is invaluable for our school.  We are situated on a main road that leads to a truck stop and access to the motorway.  We work closely with our Council Road Safety officer Marion Shearer who comes in regularly to support any work we are doing.

Many schools experience chaotic traffic scenes at the beginning and end of the school day. As a school, we alongside The City of Edinburgh Council, took decision to limit traffic in the street directly outside the school at key times, meaning that parents would not be able to park right at the gates to drop off. Our aim is always to create a safer, more pleasant environment.
