The European Commission seeks perspectives on potential measures surrounding access to in-vehicle data.
The Commission has published a call for evidence as well as an open public consultation seeking to learn about opinions on a proposal on access to vehicle resources, functions and data. This follows shortly after the proposal for Data Act, which was published in February 2022.
Through the call for evidence, interested parties are invited to express their views on the nature of the problem, the need for EU intervention, possible solutions and their associated impacts.
The public consultation is intended to record experiences with access to vehicle resources, functions and data and the potential impact of different measures, particularly with a focus on competition, security, innovation and privacy.
The call for evidence and the public consultation will build on the studies and workshops already carried out to gain evidence on this topic for the Commission. This initiative builds on and complements the proposal for Data Act which was published in February 2022, while delving into sector-specific issues. These issues include bi-directional access to vehicle resources and the balance between access to data and cybersecurity.
Access the call of evidence here, and the open public consultation here.
These consultations will be open until 21 June 2022.
