The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is an initiative launched in 1993 by RoadPeace to honor victims of road traffic accidents and their families. The United Nations confirmed its significance in 2005 and declared it a global day observed on the third Sunday of November.
This day is marked by the message Remember. Support. Act. aimed at highlighting the consequences of road traffic accidents and promoting road safety.
According to data from the World Health Organization in 2019, the consequences of road traffic accidents are the leading cause of death among children and young people aged 5 to 29, leaving profound effects on their families and representing a loss to society as a whole. This year’s campaign, titled Lost Talents, emphasizes that every life lost on the road indicates lost potential, accompanied by visuals evoking loss and emptiness.
The Croatian Automobile Club systematically implements preventive and educational programs covering all age groups to align with the National Road Traffic Safety Plan and European guidelines on road safety in the Republic of Croatia. Its goal is to approach the Vision Zero objective which is reducing the number of fatalities and serious injuries in traffic by 50% by 2030 and achieving zero road accidents with fatal outcomes by 2050.
