Radland Niederösterreich: Cooperation regarding the content, designs, public relations work
Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.
The project started in autumn 2023, when we had the idea of linking traffic safety contents to a medium that adresses children well and in an age-appropriate way. We were lucky to meet the artist, who is also a police officer and has over 20 years of experience as a clown. With expertise from both specialities he was the perfect artist for our project. In the first half year of 2024 we created the show together, including the contents of the programme, requisites and other framework conditions. The kick off show took place in October 2024 and was a huge success, the shows for 2024 und 2025 were fully booked within a few weeks. The booking for the upcoming year will be opended in October.
In terms of implementation, what worked well and what challenges did you need to overcome?
The communication between the artist, our team and the kindergarten staff has been working very well from the beginning on.
The process of the content creating needed more time than expected, because we wanted to get the best out of it.

We recieve feedback directly from the kindergarten teachers. The artist himself provides a quarterly report.
What has been the effect of the activities?
So far the show took place in 30 institutions and reached over 1500 children and helped to provide kindergartenteachers tool for age-appropriate traffic education. It complements the other contents of the traffic safety initiative of Lower Austria.
Verkehrsclown Poppo also gives some Goodies (f.e. a memory or book) to the kindergartens to enable a deepening of the content in the daily work of the kindergartenteachers.

Please briefly explain why your initiative is a good example of improving road safety.
Educational programmes for children need to be inspiring and enable independent participation. Learning through playing is the main focus at this age. Nevertheless, the urgency of the contents of traffic safety requires correctness and expertise. The Traffic Safety Show with Clown Poppo combines that.
To implement a similar projects it is important to make sure to adress the learning behavior of children that age and offer the kindergartens materials which they can continue to use in their pedagogical work (f.e. provide some goodies or specialised input to make it easy to talk with children about traffic safety).

We communicated through the website of the Traffic Safety Initiative of Lower Austria toni-verkehrsfuchs.at as well as the social media plattforms (facebook, instagram) of us and our partner organisation Radland NÖ.
