Seminar: Safe Driving for Seniors

The Guild of Driving Teachers, the Lithuanian ambassador of the European Road Safety Charter, organised their national event on June 19th 2026.

The seminar successfully brought together older drivers, road safety professionals, psychologists, driving instructors, emergency response specialists, and law enforcement representatives to address the challenges and opportunities of safe mobility in later life.

The event combined expert presentations with practical demonstrations, providing participants with evidence-based knowledge and hands-on experience. Discussions covered driver behaviour, cognitive and psychological aspects of driving, the impact of modern in-vehicle technologies, road safety trends, first aid, and strategies for adapting to changing traffic conditions.

A particularly valuable part of the seminar was the practical session, where participants tested their reaction time using a reaction timer and experienced impairment simulation goggles. These activities helped illustrate how perception, attention, coordination, and decision-making can be affected in real driving situations, reinforcing the importance of self-awareness and continuous learning.

The positive feedback received from participants confirmed that the seminar was both informative and highly practical. It encouraged dialogue between senior drivers and road safety experts while promoting lifelong learning, responsible driving behaviour, and the adoption of safe driving practices.

To extend the impact of the event beyond those who attended in person, a recording of the seminar is available online. We invite everyone interested in road safety and safe mobility for older drivers to watch the video and share it with colleagues, family members, and the wider community.
