Project activities

If you work together with external partners, list the most important partners and briefly describe their role.

The "My helmet, my superpower!" add was created without any partners, but the whole project includes very wide cooperation in Poland with public schools and non-profit organizations in order to promote the good behaviours in road traffic.

Please describe the project activities you carried/are carrying out and the time period over which these were implemented.

The campaign aims to promote helmet wearing, among others, when riding a bicycle, scooter, e-scooter, skateboard. Every year in Poland many crashes occur in which children suffer serious head and brain injuries – and most of these could be avoided if wearing a properly fitted helmet.

The campaign comes just as the debate in Poland is underway on introducing mandatory helmet wearing by children and adolescents under 16 when riding a bicycle, electric scooter, or personal transportation device. It is a free, accessible tool that is already be used in schools and in activities aimed at children to encourage helmet wearing – regardless of the form of the legislative process.

In terms of implementation, what worked well and what challenges did you need to overcome?

As the campaign was released during the period of public debate on the neccesity of wearing helmets, it helped a lot to uderline the importance of the helmetes, their influence on severity of brain damages and at the same time helped to reach young adolescents creating a positive approach towards the upcoming changes.

Evaluation

Please summarise how you have evaluated the initiative’s impact (e.g. social media reach, survey, feedback forms, statistics).

The campaign is ongoing and being constantly evaluated on media reach, surveys and feedback forms. Taking into consideration only social media in three weeks after the official release, the number of views reached more than 5.000 viewers and the campaign was presented on official road safety conferences encouraging at the same time the change on positive approach toward helmet use.

What has been the effect of the activities?

Changes of approach, positive approach towards helmet use, ongoing positive attitude towards changes in law in Poland regarding helmet use.

Please briefly explain why your initiative is a good example of improving road safety.

The "My helmet, my superpower!" project is a good example of improving road safety because it promotes awareness and behavior that directly prevent injuries and saves lives.
It reminds cyclists — especially children and young riders — to wear helmets every time they ride, making safety a habit. It reduces head Injuries: wearing a helmet greatly reduces the risk of serious head or brain injuries in case of a crash. It also raises public awareness: the ad spreads the message to the general public, helping create a culture where wearing helmets is seen as normal and responsible. The projects also targets vulnerable road users- cyclists are more exposed to injury than drivers; promoting helmet use directly addresses this high-risk group. Instead of focusing on treating injuries after crashes, it emphasizes preventing them — which is the essence of improving road safety.

How have you shared information about your project and its results?

All the information regarding the project is available on the website of the foundation as well it has been shared with other non-profit organizations, press and schools. The material was also shared on a conference for teachers encouraging them to share the material in primary schools.
