What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?

Over the next three years, we will develop an action plan to reduce accident rates on our territory and raise road safety awareness among the public. In order to do so:
We will design innovative educational material and promotional material on road safety, involving students from all kinds and levels of school, parents, teachers and school head teachers. The material will include videos on road safety that alternate serious reflection on the dramatic nature of accident rate statistics with pop music. We will involve young people by asking them to create designs on the issue of road safety, awarding prizes for the best work, which could become a road safety “poster/spot” and put up in the city as part of a prevention campaign.Every year, we will organise courses in schools aimed at involving pupils on an emotional level to raise awareness among a total of 1,400 pupils.
We will organise meetings to involve parents, making PowerPoint presentations (to more or less 300 people). The presentation will focus on the most dangerous driving behaviours for young people, including Highway Code rules of behaviour, accident rate statistics, rules on giving way and caution, the effects of alcohol and drugs on driving, speeding, signs, safety distances, and road accident images.
We will heighten the standard traffic controls, organising a patrol service to curb dangerous behaviour. The aim is to organise at least two patrols every week.
Start of the course/meetings: 21-04-2008 Conclusion: 31-12-2010 Partners: municipal authority, school head teachers, pupils’ parents, teachers trained in the field of road safety.
