What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?
In the field of speed management and casualty reduction, to develop and implement a speed management programme identifying sites with higher than average traffic speeds, for inclusion in our new Mobile Speed Sign Initiative.
The Mobile Speed Sign Initiative will consist of a transportable speed sign and a speed measuring unit. The device will detect the speeds of approaching vehicles and flash up a warning message advising drivers that they are speeding. A recording device attached to the unit will record the data for monitoring purposes. In addition, the Mobile Speed Sign Initiative will be used at other locations where there are high numbers of vulnerable road users.
The Mobile Speed Sign Initiative will be relocated on a weekly basis from site to site to prevent drivers becoming desensitised to the signs. Quarterly monitoring reports will be produced to evaluate the success of the project.
