The Action Plan of the Traffic Police is a European Commitment for the new phase of the European Charter for Road Safety 2013-2016. The Action plan’s objective is to ensure the safety of the circulation on the roads is an important moment in our common road map to reduce of 50%, within 2020, the total number of traffic accidents and victims. In this framework, the Action Plan provides a concrete commitment not only to decrease the number of accidents and victims, but also to decrease violations of traffic rules, specially the most important, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding and misuse of seat belts. A target that will be pursued also with the effort of all the most modern technological devices, able to monitor violations and to reduce costs related to the management of traffic accidents, as well as the level of risk exposure for users involved and for Traffic Police Patrols working on the spot. Particular attention will be placed in the planning and performing road safety campaigns, both at national and European level, following the experience of the Progetto ICARO and of the International ICARUS Project, co-financed by DG Move, always paying attention to the continuous evolution of communication technology, as well as to increase the visibility of actions on social media and using all other modern systems of communication. A commitment that wants to be a real example of “best practice” in road safety, in Italy and in Europe, so as to allow the effective realization of the European Charter new motto “together, we are Road Safety” , through constant updating of objectives and prevention activities to achieve. A common road map. A real challenge. A European commitment.
